Charlotte, N.C. (Feb. 22, 2016) – Johnson C. Smith University senior women’s basketball player Ashley Porter and freshman A’Diyah Ussery both took home All-CIAA honors as announced today at the CIAA Tournament luncheon held at the Charlotte Convention Center on Monday afternoon. Porter was named All-CIAA while Ussery was named to the CIAA All-Rookie Team.

Porter, a forward from Winston-Salem, N.C., led JCSU in scoring with 294 points, averaging 10.9 per game. She also led the Golden Bulls in rebounding, bringing down 208 throughout the season, finishing with a 7.7 per game average. She had a career-high 25 points on a 9-of-13 shooting outing at Shaw on Jan. 30. This is Porter’s second All-CIAA award, as she earned the designation following her sophomore season in 2014.

A Shelby, N.C. native, Ussery led JCSU with 11.1 points per game to earn a spot on the All-Rookie team. She came on strong during the late part of the season and shot 37.8% from the field and 35.5% from long range. Her career high came in a 25 point outburst at rival Livingstone on Feb. 13. That day, she hit three from distance and went 10-of-11 from the free throw line in JCSU’s 86-77 overtime win.

The JCSU women’s basketball team will begin the 2016 CIAA Tournament on Tuesday, Feb. 23 at 2:20 p.m. when they battle Elizabeth City State.
