JCSU Women’s Basketball Rolls to 76-62 Win at St. Augustine’s

JCSU got a team-high 15 points and 10 points from senior Ashley Porter (Winston-Salem, N.C.). Porter finished the night shooting 6-of-13 from the field in the win. Freshman teammate A’Diyah Ussery (Shelby, N.C.) completed the game with 14 points, including a perfect 4-of-4 from the free throw line. Ussery also nailed two three pointers in the win.

Men’s Tennis Falls at Catawba, at Home to Wingate

On Sunday against Wingate, Miller fell in his match at No. 4 singles by a 6-1, 6-1 score.  All other singles matches were swept by 6-0, 6-0 counts.  In doubles play, Tarick Miller (New Orleans, La.) and Sharif Axam (Atlanta, Ga.) fell at No. 1 by an 8-2 score, with the remaining doubles matches ending in 8-0 scores.

JCSU Men Finish 11th at CIAA Cross Country Championship

The Johnson C. Smith Men’s Cross Country team finished 11th in the 2015 CIAA Cross Country Championships held at the WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary, N.C. on Thursday morning.Senior Waynee Hyman (Warwick, N.Y.) led the way for JCSU, finishing the 8K course in 23rd with a 30:48.

Volleyball Falls on Senior Night

In the first set, JCSU (3-16) lead throughout, bolting to a 13-8 lead.  The JCSU lead would then balloon to 15-9 following a kill from senior Salesse Stovall (Roanoke, Va.).  The Golden Bulls would increase the lead to 23-15 on a Gracyn Doctor (Charleston, S.C.) kill.  Doctor would close out the set on a kill, giving the Golden Bulls the 25-16 win.

CIAA Football Players and Coach of the Week #8

Thomas added three more interceptions in a 17-10 homecoming win over Shaw. He had 67 return yards and tallied four tackles against the Bears. He has had seven interceptions over the past two games, including last week’s CIAA record breaking performance. He has 10 INTs on the season.
