Defense Leads JCSU to 17-10 Homecoming Victory Over Shaw

Shaw (0-8, 0-5 CIAA) had a chance to tie it late in the fourth quarter.  The Bears embarked on a potential game-winning drive with 3:54 remaining, taking it all the way to the JCSU four yard line.  The big play for the Bears came when they converted a fourth and five situation from the JCSU 18.

JCSU’s Carlo Thomas and Coach Kermit Blount Earn CIAA Weekly Honors

Charlotte, N.C. (Oct. 20, 2015) – Johnson C. Smith safety Carlo Thomas and head coach Kermit Blount earned CIAA weekly honors as named by the league on Tuesday morning.Thomas, an East Orange, N.J. product, earned the league’s Defensive Back of the Week award after setting a new CIAA record and JCSU school record by intercepting four Fayetteville State passes.

Fayetteville struck first on their initial drive as the Broncos capped a nine play, 77 yard drive when Tavon Gatlin hauled in a two yard touchdown pass from Derek Bryant to give FSU the early 6-0 lead.

JCSU Mourns the Passing of Former Men’s Basketball Coach Robert D. Moore

Moore served as head coach of the JCSU men’s basketball program from 1978-1987.  During his nine years at the helm of the JCSU program, he compiled a 148-101 overall record.  His best season came in the 1981-1982 season, as he led JCSU to a 22-8 overall record.  He also had a 21-9 mark in his final campaign during the 1986-1987 season.

JCSU Falls at WSSU, 37-22

Smith scored on its first play from scrimmage, a 63 yard pass from freshman quarterback Jordan Lane (Charlotte, N.C.)  to receiver Fred Scott (Stone Mountain, Ga.) to take an early 7-0 lead but Winston-Salem State scored 20 second quarter points en route to a 37-22 win at an overcast and drizzly Bowman Gray Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
